The purpose of this site is to make available information that has been laboratory tested with real clients in wheelchair situations. It is to help clear up the confusion of why purchased clothing is not working for physically disabled.

You need to understand the importance of an individual's wardrobe. Existing clothing creates serious emotional problems for disabled people and their family members. This factor is the "Missing Link" in rehabilitative medicine. To understand more click here. Understanding promotes the ability to ask the right questions and, the knowledge to select the right garments when replacing them. Understanding allows you to make informed choices with your existing wardrobe.

Proper measurements insure prevention

In the laboratory the paradigm of Vestimology© evolved as I tried to meet the fashion wants and needs of people in wheelchairs. At the same time, my goal was to help the doctors who sent their clients to the laboratory. By addressing the medical needs for prevention of abrasion and decubitus ulcers, the laboratory was able to develop clothing solutions for the physcially disabled. Uniting fashion knowledge with medical knowledge resulted in the new paradigm. This dual system for the people in wheelchairs expanded to the caretakers and families who wanted mobility and exposure problems corrected also.

With proper prescription writing for the medical profession, the client could apply to his private insurance company for payment. Learn how your doctor can prescribe for you.  Many decubiti, costing more than $10,000 a month each to maintain, can be prevented and/or healed with correct clothing design. The cost of Vestimologically© designed clothing can be as low as insurance and one's paycheck allows. A cost range would be about $2,000 to $6,000 annually, depending on the amount and type of work done, i.e. pattern adjustment, existing clothing adjustment, custom design, tailoring or other. “The Missing Link©" in rehabilitative medicine is about to come full circle for thousands of people suffering with decubitus ulcers.

Correct design
eliminates problems

Understanding what happens to the anatomy as the person sits, squats, or climbs helps one to see the changes the physical internal functioning undergoes in these situations. The clothing is constricting vital body functions and this is what is causing many sores. For information on what can be done to help your situation, I have a Q & A Blog on this site. This ebook explains how Sit-Down-Figure(SDF)© clothing relates to a wide variety of occupations and other long-term-sitting situations, not just to people in wheelchairs.

Here is a testimonial from Gary Oakes in Colorado, a young man in his twenties with spina bifida. The lower part of his body never reached above the ten year old size when his handicap overtook the body. From his waist up he grew to his normal manhood size of a 40 inch chest.

”Let me take this opportunity to thank you for all your fine work fitting me for the clothes that I so desperately needed. I had tried to find clothes that would fit me when sitting in my wheelchair, but they were not to be found. I even had some clothes altered to try and fit me.  They all had the same problems. They didn’t fit, they always looked like they were four sizes too big. They always bunched up, the pants always fell down when I tried to transfer in or out of my wheelchair and the coats were not made to wear when working in a manual wheelchair. The clothes that you made me have solved all these problems. They also give me a sense of well being just knowing that I now look like I should, not some guy in a wheelchair with baggy pants and a coat that didn’t fit.

I wish you a great deal of success in your business.  I am sure there are a lot of people with some physical handicap that will benefit from your work. Again THANK YOU VERY MUCH.”
