UNDERSTANDING WHY CLOTHING BECOMES A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE IN SITTING SITUATIONS.

A larger size does not give mobility; proper fit does

The purpose of this site is to make available information that has been laboratory tested with real clients in wheelchair situations. It is to help clear up the confusion of why purchased clothing is not working.

You need to understand the importance of an individual's wardrobe, and why existing clothing creates such serious emotional problems for special needs clients and their family members. This is the "Missing Link" in rehabilitative medicine. To understand more about this, click here. To understand is to gain the ability to ask the right questions, and the knowledge to look for the right garments when replacing the one you have. Understanding allows you to make informed choices with your existing wardrobe.

Proper measurements insure prevention

In the laboratory, the paradigm of Vestimology came to being as I tried to meet the fashion wants of people in wheelchairs. At the same time, my goal was to help the doctors that sent their clients to me meet the medical needs for prevention of abrasion and decubitus ulcers. This dual system of providing for the people in wheelchairs gravitated to the caretakers and families who wanted more mobility and exposure problems corrected. This all developed, along with proper prescription writing for the medical profession, so that the client could apply to his private insurance company for payment. Many decubiti, costing more than $10,000 a month each to maintain, can be prevented with correct design. That cost can be as low as the insurance and one's paycheck allow. Generally, about $1,000 to $4,000 annually, depending on the amount and type of work done. This “Missing Link" is about to come full circle for thousands of people suffering with decubitus ulcers. Learn how your doctor can prescribe for you.
